Gingerbreads at the Grove Park

The National Gingerbread House Competition 2010
at The Grove Park Inn

This evening Keith and I took Kamden and his big brother Blake to eat dinner at Fuddruckers-- home of the world's greatest hamburgers! It reminded me of when I was a kid, and my parents used to take me all the time. Close by, is the Grove Park Inn. Every year, they host the National Gingerbread House competition, and put them on display through the holidays. We thought it would be a great place to take the kids for a family night.

Kamden would hardly sit still, he was so excited! He didn't want to sit in his stroller, he wanted to get out and walk around. The Grove Park was decorated in Christmas from wall to wall. Christmas trees (some as tall as two story houses) lined the halls, each one decorated uniquely. We walked the entire resort, following the gingerbread house display tour.

The houses were split into categories: children, teens, and adult divisions. We were so amazed at the talent from such young people. My favorite was the Ballet at a theater with a Ballerina on stage and also the Basilica of St. Lawrence (which is located downtown Asheville). Keith loved the honey bear with his hand in the honey comb with Spring flowers all around him. I think overall, our favorite was the house from the Disney movie "Up" which is pictured above. There were some phenomenal pieces of art work there.

We stopped by the gift shop for some fresh hot chocolate. Kamden was more interested in the elevators than he was anything else. He kept pushing the buttons, and wanted to ride up and down. He giggled every time we got on one, and it made your tummy drop a little.

Along the hallway to the dining portion, was famous guests and presidents that have stayed at the Grove Park. Of course, Kamden is too young to notice, but his big brother Blake was checking out all of the Presidents. His favorite subject in school is History. We are so blessed with two smart boys in our lives. They make our family so proud!
