13 MONTHS OLD: 1 Year & 1 Month.

It's official... we are parents of a TODDLER... Kamden is now walking!!! We have seen him take a few individual steps since he was around 11 months old or so. Now, he takes anywhere from 5-15 steps at a time. Every day he gets better at walking. Once he realizes what he is done, he gets so excited and happy! The smile he gets after he plops down from walking a few feet, is priceless. He gets so giddy and tickled at himself. I guess it's safe to say, we get the same way too after watching him do it!

He's always been your typical curios baby, but now he is getting into more things. He obsesses over the bathroom... especially the toilet, waste basket, and toilet paper! It's like having a puppy in the house, haha. His favorites are still playing outside and bath time. He now likes to stand up in the tub and throw everything that is in the tub, outside the tub... soaking the entire floor. He's a mess, but we are enjoying every minute we are blessed to spend with him. Here's a few extra details on what little man has been up to lately:

  • Clothes- 12 Months and some 18 Months sleepers, which are still a little big.

  • Diapers- Size 4

  • Shoes- Size 5.5-6 Infant

  • Sleeps- from 8pm to 8am, waking up around 2-4am, 50% of the time, long enough to get a bottle, and go back to sleep.

Walking... 5-15 steps at a time!

  • Talking... no new words this month (Momma, Dadda & Daddy, Bye Bye, Duck, Dog)
  • Still loves to wave and say "Bye!"
  • Loves to mimic everything you do. Still crazy about playing patty cakes and giving high fives.
  • Like to point at everything! When he recognizes something that looks similar to a duck, he points and says the word. If he sees something that remotely resembles a dog, he does the same thing! He is really making the connections to words and objects. Associates meanings to things and people.
  • Has learned how to climb! Yes, I believe his Daddy taught him that. He will throw one leg up over whatever he is trying to climb on (the couch, ottoman, his big boy car, etc) and get up there. Also knows how to get down now too.
  • Still has tons of hair! Hasn't had an official hair cut yet, because we adore his long hair. It's also getting curly. Wonder where he gets that from? I had to trim it out of his eyes the other day so he could see better. It almost broke my heart to do it. haha.
  • Loves all kinds of food! Still not crazy about carrots for some reason. Still gets three main meals a day, with snacks in between. It's a combination of Stage 3 baby foods, Graduate meals, and table food.
  • He loves to try and feed himself with his big boy spoon!
  • Finally drinks from a sippy cup. Prefers the ones that have pop up straws or juice boxes.
  • Weaning him off the bottle and formula have proven more difficult. Still takes about 3 bottles in a 24 hour period. We have tried mixing them 1/2 to 3/4 of formula and whole milk. Doesn't care for whole milk yet at all. Won't drink it most of the time right now.

  • Doesn't like to share, but doesn't pitch a fit. Kamden still hasn't been around a lot of other children his age. When he is, he doesn't like to share his toys. He won't make a fuss, he just stares at the other kid until he gets back whatever it is they took. haha.
  • Makes demands with non-verbal language. For example... when he wants us to read to him, he now knows where his books are and will gesture us to get them. Stands at the door and points to the yard, when he wants to go outside. When he is hungry, he gets in the cupboard and brings out all the canned food and hands them to us. (I know, we still haven't got around to child proofing all the cabinets. Have bought all the locks, but haven't had time to install them all yet!)
  • Is very social around people he knows, but is starting to act shy around strangers.
  • Loves playing with is toys. Some of his favorites are the shape sorters or stackers, wooden blocks, and balls. He really is a pretty simple kid.
  • Like to play a simple version of hide and seek, where you will pretend to chase after him or hide behind the door and pop out. He actually provokes us to do this, and loves it so much! he also likes to play fetch and throws the ball back and forth. Especially those new "Oball" things.
The start of Kamden being ONE YEAR old has been amazing. We are able to take him to more kid friendly places, that your typical toddlers enjoy. The fall time is such a great time of year to enjoy some of these fun family activities. We are looking forward to festivals and maybe a pumpkin patch soon, with Halloween just around the corner!
