Parents Magazine Cover Contest

This is the photo we entered for the
2010 Parents Magazine Cover Contest
This is Kamden at 9 months old,
sitting on his grandmother's dog, "Izzy"

Browsing through the internet, I discovered a photo contest for babies. How it works is for ten weeks, people vote on the cutest kids. Each week there is a winner. At the end of the contest those top ten children will be finalists to be on the cover of Parents magazine this fall. Each one would be flown to New York City, all expense paid trip, for a photo shoot and the winner would be selected to be on the cover!

Exciting.... I know. I was just playing around and submitted Kamden's photo. I wasn't really sure how it worked, but two days into the contest-- Kamden made it to #46 out of about 8,000 babies. Once we realized he was in the top 50, we started to ask for our friends and family's help on facebook. By the time the week was up, he had close to 500 fans! It was phenomenal.

We were so stoked that so many people supported him and cheered him on throughout the week, by voting countless times. I know we were all burnt out with it by the end of the week. He made his way from #46, to #32, then #22, #29 and finally at #31. We were stunned! It was so exciting to wake up everyday and find out his new rankings.

The contest would only allow you to vote one time per day for each computer. So Keith and I, since he is in summer school and I work at a school, would hit up the computer labs every day to cast our votes. Three days left in the competition, we figured out that you could vote from multiple servers-- like internet explorer, google chrome, and firefox, from the same computer. Then, the day before it was over-- we discovered if you simply cleared your browsing history and cookies that you vote as many times as you wanted! haha. But it was too late.

By the end of the week, he placed #29 out of thousands of kids. The magazine sent another email that selected him to run again the following week. By then, we all thought the contest was over and most people (including ourselves) were tired of voting so much! haha. He ended up at #21 the following week with only a fraction of the votes from before. He probably had a chance at making it all the way the second time around, but we were still pleased with where he ended up.

It made us very proud that he did so well, and it was all for fun anyways! We were much appreciative and grateful that all of our friends, family, and even people we've never met that were helping Kamden so much. That was awesome! So any of you that contributed... Kamden sends lots of kisses and high fives your way!
