Can't believe it's TRUE... our BABY BOY is TWO!
As cliche as it may sound, it is hard to believe it's true... our baby boy Kamden is TWO!!!
We kicked off the weekend by getting Kamden's 2nd haircut ever for his 2nd birthday at Cool Cuts 4 Kids in Hollywood, FL. They have toy cars for chairs and the kids stay amused while they're getting their hair cut by watching movies on their individual TV screens in front of them. Of course, Kamden picked his most recent favorite movie Disney's "Cars" which is also this year's theme for his birthday!
After we got his haircut, we went for a fun pre-birthday dinner at the famous Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor in Dania Beach, FL. Kamden's grandmother, Joyce (Mammaw), just flew into town for the weekend and was able to join us, along with his other grandmother, Terri (Queenie). The next morning was the big day and I cooked a big breakfast before Kamden's birthday party. We all had a great time kicking off such a special weekend together!
Having moved only 3 short months ago and with everything going on lately, we weren't sure if we would throw a party this year. Keith just started optometry school and between classes and studying is gone 60-70 hours a week. I started my new job and also in graduate school as well, so not really too much time to spare these days. Plus, we haven't met too many people here locally yet, but we still wanted to celebrate even if we were the only people there! So on that note, we got excited and decided to go ahead and go all in!
We were able to reserve the pool house at our new condo at no cost and on the day of his birthday, so it was a win-win for us! I found a photo cars invitation online from Sam's Club and went ahead and sent out invitations.
Since the movie is so popular, finding themed items and decorations were easy. I made Kamden's birthday banner, labels, treat bags and customized road signs on the computer. I used a checkered racing flag background to tie in the theme throughout.
I photoshopped the road signs on the computer with a curved road that looked like the number 2 and a highway 2 sign with Kamden's name above. I then spray painted 3 tiny clay pots and paint sticks to attach to the road signs and stuck them to floral foam in the bottom then covered with shredded red paper grass. I used these and the road cones with balloons attached as center pieces for the tables and decorations outside. Most everything else came from Party City, Walmart, Dollar Tree or Target.
I also handmade Kamden's birthday shirt this year with puff paint since I have was short on and wasn't sure if I ordered on Etsy if it would be here in time. I hand painted the number two that looks like a road with a car and his name. He loved it!
For the kids activity, I bought foam rectangles and easy peel off foam stickers to "Make Your Own License Plate" it made a bit of a mess, but was a huge hit with the kids. Plus, I saved the leftover supplies for other crafting projects for later on.
Kamden loved his gifts and this year we got him a Disney Cars Powerwheel... it was the perfect gift and the "icing on the cake" to end the party. We were so thankful and happy that so many of our new friends made it to the party and we didn't celebrate by ourselves after all. Kamden ended his wonderful 2nd birthday with our annual tradition of reading Dr. Seuss's book "Happy Birthday To You!" He got this book on his first birthday and it was signed by all of his loved ones at his first birthday party last year! We only managed to get through the first page before Kamden stopped paying attention... what can I say!?! Must be his age. We are officially welcomed to the Two's!!!

The Fueling Station |
Kamden's 2nd "Cars" Birthday Party Menu:
Pizzas
Build Your Own Salad
Chips and Dip
Fruit Cars
Mini Cookies
Candy Bar
Pit Stop (Ice Chest filled with "Cars" Juice Boxes)
Racing Fuel (Homemade Sweet Tea)
Cars Birthday Cake!
Having pizzas and build your own salads, were a quick and easy menu option. The only thing I handmade were the fruit cars made out of apples and grapes. I found the racing flag toothpicks at party city and attached the grapes with regular toothpicks. They were too cute and not that hard to make. My mom (Kamden's Queenie) made the homemade sweet tea for me that we called "Racing Fuel" filled in a self serve party pitcher. For the kids, I was lucky to find juice boxes with Disney "Cars" on them and filled up an ice chest we called the "Pit Stop." I also made the food and napkin labels on the computer and found the racing flag ribbon at the craft store. Party City had the paper cups, plates and racing flag banner to match. This theme was so much fun and very easy to coordinate.
My favorite thing at the party, besides the birthday boy of course, was the race car cake in the shape of a "2" that was made to look like a road. I saw a similar idea somewhere online and I was lucky enough to find a local bakery in Fort Lauderdale, FL to make this special cake for us. Chef Dee at Delliquez Custom Cakes & Catering exceed our expectations with this beautiful and unique cake. The best part was that it tasted as good as it looks! Kamden's face lit up when he saw it and he was thrilled to blow out his birthday candles. He loved it so much, we caught him trying to sneak another piece by cutting into his own cake. That's our Kamden... marches to the beat of his own drum!
Kamden just recently started preschool for the first time and a bunch of his friends from school came to his party. He was having a blast running around with them, playing in the bubbles, and making license plates with the foam stickers. He even tried to hug and kiss one of the cute little girls. Oh Kamden! A few of Keith's classmates and new friends took a break from studying and came out too-- Ryan and his girlfriend, Kelsey and Tommy and his wife Ashley and their newborn baby, Owen. Our neighbors and friends came, Janet, Paige and Steve. My new co-worker Nora and her three grandkids. But it meant the world to us that both of Kamden's grandmothers, Terri (Queenie) and Joyce (Mammaw) could be there this year too! His Aunt Susan, Uncle Robby and cousins Sarah and Holly couldn't make it but they sent a Teddy Tank with a new Beta Fish in their absence and it was the cutest thing we've ever seen!
Kamden loved his gifts and this year we got him a Disney Cars Powerwheel... it was the perfect gift and the "icing on the cake" to end the party. We were so thankful and happy that so many of our new friends made it to the party and we didn't celebrate by ourselves after all.
